Barcolana sailing regatta preparations

Organizers of the 58th Barcolana sailing regatta announced the event details, including a 13-nautical-mile course in the Gulf of Trieste scheduled for October 11. The festivities include the ‘Go to Barcolana’ race connecting Slovenia and Italy, with a planned Croatian stage starting in Pula. Subsequent reports indicate that the Barcolana regatta will serve as the conclusion for the sixth Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce regatta, a 1,492-mile race organized by the Italian Navy that begins in Genoa. Additionally, MSC has announced its participation in the Barcolana regatta, competing with the vessel Psaros33. For the 2026 edition, the regatta is scheduled to run from October 2 to October 11 in Trieste. The main event, the Coppa d’Autunno, is set to begin on Sunday, October 11, at 10:30 AM. The course will span the Gulf of Trieste, covering areas from Barcola and Miramare to the Porto Vecchio. Operating under the theme ‘Be Barcolana’, the event aims to strengthen community identity and the local maritime spirit. The program includes over 500 events across the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, involving locations such as Aquileia, Grado, and Lignano. The festivities will feature an expanded village in Borgo Teresiano and will host the Nave Vespucci as a guest of honor. Mitja Gialuz, president of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, noted that over a thousand people are involved in organizing this year's program. Alongside the sailing, a series of cultural and historical activities will run from October 2 to October 10. These include evening appointments in Piazza Unità, Piazza Verdi, and Borgo Cavana. On October 2, the ‘Diego de Henriquez’ Museum of War for Peace will inaugurate a new section dedicated to the bathyscaphe Trieste.
