BBVA strategic reorganization and AI integration
Overview
BBVA has initiated a series of strategic shifts focused on leadership reorganization, capital management, and artificial intelligence integration.
In late July, the bank approved a comprehensive overhaul of its executive committee to simplify its structure and accelerate an AI-driven transformation. This reorganization included several key appointments, such as Gonzalo Rodríguez as chief financial officer and José Luis Elechiguerra as country manager of BBVA Mexico. Additionally, the bank dissolved its Regulation & Internal Control division, merging its functions into Global Risk Management and Compliance.
By late August, the bank expanded its financial and technological activities. BBVA completed a $2.3 billion issuance of senior non-preferred bonds to support refinancing and shareholder capital returns, alongside a share buyback program. Simultaneously, the bank began integrating artificial intelligence into its Business and Institutional Banking division through its newly formed global AI Transformation organization, aiming to enhance client advisory and risk management.
