BC Conservative Party candidate removals
Overview
The British Columbia Conservative Party has removed two candidates from its slate following controversies involving social media activity.
On October 8, Joachim Agou, the candidate for Victoria-Beacon Hill, was removed after the resurfacing of posts concerning the Pakistani population in London and comments regarding a pro-Palestine protest in Switzerland. Agou issued an apology, stating he was ‘truly sorry’ while rejecting accusations of racism. Interim leader Lorne Doerkson stated there was ‘no excuse for this’ and noted Agou would not serve in the caucus if elected.
On October 15, the party removed Jordan McIntosh, the candidate for Vancouver-Strathcona. This followed allegations from NDP candidate Callista Ryan regarding offensive content posted via an anonymous account named ‘DeathNight’. The posts allegedly included claims questioning the nature of the Holocaust, specifically suggesting that Hitler did not specifically hate Jews and that many died simply due to their large population in Europe. The party confirmed that McIntosh would not sit in the Conservative caucus if elected.
