Quarterback Nathan Rourke, the CFL’s 2025 Most Outstanding Player, missed the remainder of the July 17 game against the Edmonton Elks and the following two contests due to a left-shoulder injury. By early August, the BC Lions were monitoring his recovery and indicated that his return was being taken “day-by-day.” On August 5, the team announced that Rourke intended to rejoin the squad for the home game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at BC Place. Two days later, on August 7, the Lions confirmed he had been cleared to start. In his return game on August 8, Rourke completed 22 of 39 attempts for 370 yards and two touchdown passes, helping the Lions secure a 27-24 victory. Following that win, the Lions improved to a 3–5 record. On August 12, the Lions extended their winning streak to three games with a 30-26 victory over the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium. Rourke led the offense with 301 passing yards and two touchdowns to Keon Hatcher, alongside a rushing touchdown. Zander Horvath added 102 rushing yards and a score. Calgary initially held the lead behind four field goals from Jude McAtamney. Stampeders quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. threw a touchdown to Erik Brooks before exiting with an injury in the fourth quarter. Backup Josh Love entered but threw a late interception to B.C.’s T. J. Lee to secure the win. The victory moves the Lions to a 4–5 record, allowing them to leapfrog Calgary and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for third place in the CFL West Division, while the Stampeders fall to 4–6.
