Belgium municipal housing policy implementation

Overview

In August 2026, several Belgian municipalities and the social housing company Dijledal implemented a right of first refusal policy in village centers such as Oud-Heverlee, Sint Joris Weert, Blanden, and Haasrode.

Effective August 1, 2026, the regulation allows the municipality or Dijledal to purchase property or building land at the same price and conditions agreed upon by a third-party buyer.
