Galatasaray secures 4-2 comeback win over Lille

Overview

Galatasaray secured their first victory of the UEFA Champions League league phase by defeating Lille 4-2 at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium.

Building on their previous 2-2 draw, the match saw Galatasaray overcome an early deficit. Following Yunus Akgün’s 2nd-minute goal—the club’s earliest goal in the competition—and Lille’s subsequent response via two goals from 19-year-old Soriba Diaoune in the 7th and 39th minutes, Aleksey Batrakov leveled the score with a header in the 44th minute just before halftime.

In the second half, Galatasaray took the lead in the 52nd minute when a Lucas Torreira header led to an own goal by Nabil Bentaleb. Victor Osimhen then sealed the comeback in the 61st minute, scoring against his former club during a swift counter-attack.

This victory marks Galatasaray’s first away win in France in 25 years. Following the match, manager Okan Buruk emphasized the necessity of maintaining concentration for the full 90 minutes and noted the win provides significant morale ahead of an upcoming domestic derby.

Lille manager Davide Ancelotti criticized his team's defensive lapses and inability to manage key moments, stating the club must improve to remain competitive. With this result, Galatasaray earns their first three points of the tournament, while Lille remains without points in the competition after three matches.
