Songwriter Bernie Taupin announced his first solo album in nearly 40 years, titled ‘The Sea Has No Mercy’, scheduled for release on 23 October 2026. Described by the 76-year-old as a “late-life manifesto”, the record was recorded in Nashville and features various guest performers, including Brandi Carlile. Following this announcement, it was confirmed that Taupin will participate in the 2026 Americanafest Keynote Conversation on 16 September in Nashville. The Americana Music Association has clarified that the session will be a moderator-free discussion focusing on the creative process, songwriting, collaboration, and artistic longevity. Taupin will join Brandi Carlile for the conversation. Carlile, a Grammy winner and prominent figure in Americana and roots music, will participate during her ‘The Human Tour’ following the release of her album ‘Returning To Myself’. New details regarding the upcoming album reveal that, unlike his previous works, Taupin has written and composed all tracks for this project himself. He characterized the album as his “most intimate” offering, noting that the songs reflect his experiences at age 76. The project was reportedly inspired by the writing of his autobiography, ‘Scattershot’, and the filming of a retrospective documentary. Recorded in Nashville with producer Frank Liddell and the band The Tennessee Stone Cutters, the album will also feature guest appearances by Lee Ann Womack and Taupin’s daughter, Georgey Devon Taupin, who performs on the track ‘One Hundred Ways’.
