Biennale de Lyon 2026
Overview
The 18th edition of the Biennale de Lyon is scheduled for September 2026. Under the artistic direction of Isabelle Bertolotti and curation of Catherine Nichols, the event follows the theme ‘To pass from one dream to another.’
The program features 118 artists from 42 nationalities with 65 creations distributed across eleven locations in the city, including the Musée des Tissus, Les Grandes Locos, and the Cour des Loges. Inspired by the philosophy of avant-garde artist Robert Filliou, the Biennale emphasizes a ‘poetic economy’ that treats art as an ethical and relational event.
Exhibitions will include works by Birke Gorm, who utilizes reclaimed materials to critique overconsumption; Rose Frigière, focusing on memory and female narratives; and Archana Hande, who explores connections between Lyon’s silk history and textile industries in Bangalore.
