Bierkönig murder investigation in Mallorca
Overview
Investigators are revisiting the ‘Bierkönig-Mord’, a triple murder that occurred on November 12, 1997, in Mallorca. The victims included German restaurateur Manfred Meisel, his eight-year-old son Patrick, and animal keeper Claudia Leisten.
While the statute of limitations has expired in Spain, the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office maintains the investigation because Meisel was a German citizen. Investigators suspect the perpetrators acted with professional intent, potentially motivated by rivalries in Meisel’s parrot breeding business or links to organized crime.
Following a broadcast of the crime program ‘Aktenzeichen XY... International’, the investigation has seen a significant development. The Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office reported receiving more than 50 new tips. Authorities suggest these leads may result from shifts in witness loyalties, with individuals now showing a greater willingness to provide information regarding the murders at the Meisel family finca in S’Aranjassa.
