Băile Herculane railway station restoration
Overview
CFR Infrastructură and CFR SA have released architectural renderings for the major restoration of the historic Băile Herculane (Herkulesbad) railway station in Romania. The station, a Group A historical monument, was originally constructed between 1878 and 1886 and features Baroque-style architecture inspired by the Schönbrunn Palace.
The renovation project aims to restore the building to its original splendor while adapting it to modern standards of safety, comfort, and accessibility. Work will involve consolidating buildings, repairing the dome, and restoring facades, stone decorations, and polychrome mosaic floors. The project also seeks to address and reverse modifications made during the communist era. This initiative is being coordinated through cooperation between CFR, the Ministry of Culture, and the Caraș-Severin County Directorate for Culture.
