Bilibili global platform expansion

Overview

Bilibili, the Shanghai-based video-sharing platform, has progressed its global expansion strategy to compete with services like YouTube. Following the initial launch of its international Android app, the company officially launched a new international version on August 19, 2026. To lower barriers for non-Chinese creators, Bilibili has removed the requirement for international users to submit passports or government IDs to register or upload content, allowing sign-ups via email or phone number.

The platform, which reports approximately 376 million monthly active users, continues to develop an iOS version and a full English-language website. Technical support for this expansion includes AI-powered automatic dubbing to mitigate language barriers and the retention of the signature ‘danmu’ feature for real-time scrolling comments. To manage this growth, Bilibili is establishing localization teams and community managers in global hubs such as Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, Istanbul, São Paulo, and Mexico City.

Regarding creator incentives, Bilibili has outlined three monetization mechanisms: revenue sharing, virtual tipping, and a brand matchmaking marketplace. While specific payout details remain subject to eligibility requirements, reports suggest that creator incentive programs could pay as much as $0.70 per 1,000 views, a rate that may exceed current offerings from YouTube.
