The 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) concluded its run, which took place from August 14 to 21. The event, which featured approximately 250 films with a focus on Southeast European cinema, ended with a major awards ceremony at the National Theatre Sarajevo. The top prize, the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Narrative Feature Film, was awarded to Austrian director Sandra Wollner for ‘Everytime’. The jury, which included SFF President Emily Watson, characterized the film as a “mesmerically elastic and transcendental grief-soaked ghost story.” Other significant winners included Ana Urushadze for Best Director and Eva Kostić for Best Actress, alongside various recognitions for regional talent in documentary and short film categories. During the festival, the red carpet featured appearances by celebrities such as Selma Bajrami and Zala Ribič ~~Đurić. The event also highlighted North Macedonian cinema, featuring three films in the main competition~~ Đurić, Goran Višnjić, and ~~Milcho Manchevski’s documentary ‘Good People’. Earlier in the festival,~~ Dragan Marinković Maca. American actor Woody Harrelson received the Honorary Heart of ~~Sarajevo.~~ Sarajevo, presented by festival director Jovan Marjanović at the Metalac Open Air Cinema. Harrelson reflected on his first visit to the city following the war, describing the devastation as “unimaginable,” and attended a screening of the 1997 film ‘Welcome to Sarajevo’, in which he starred. The festival also hosted an international conference titled ‘Climate Change and Green Transition’ in partnership with UNDP. In the student competition section, the short film ‘Komšija’, directed by Dan Grabnar, premiered. The film explores themes of student protests and police repression in Serbia, focusing on the tension between a policeman and his neighbor. Following the event, the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Board reported that the festival drove a measurable increase in regional tourism, with 43,010 tourist arrivals ~~(a 2.4 percent increase over 2025)~~ and 88,105 overnight ~~stays (up 1.6 percent). Major visitor groups arrived from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Turkey, Slovenia, and Montenegro.~~ stays. Additionally, a recycling initiative supported by Coca-Cola collected over 59 tons of waste across 21 locations, including 32.9 tons of glass and 16.5 tons of mixed waste. The ‘Recycle Me. Give Me a New Life’ initiative specifically accounted for 6.4 tons of paper, 2.7 tons of PET packaging, and 350 kilograms of cans. locations.
