Biotech advancements in cancer research and clinical trials

Overview

VERAXA Biotech has begun implementing New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in its preclinical research to align with U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidelines and reduce animal testing. The company reported that using an ex vivo panel of patient-derived xenograft models for its BiTAC-based T cell engagers and antibody-drug conjugates required approximately 10 mice, whereas traditional in vivo studies would have required an estimated 200 or more.

Following these developments, VERAXA Biotech presented in vivo proof-of-concept data for its BiTAC-ADC technology platform at the 17th World ADC Congress. In a breast cancer model, a single 3 mg/kg dose resulted in significant tumor regression without a decrease in body weight. In vitro studies indicated the platform can distinguish cancer cells from healthy cells to prevent the release of active toxins outside the tumor, suggesting a potential for reduced off-target systemic toxicity compared to conventional antibody-drug conjugates.
