BJP political activity in West Bengal

Overview

Reports regarding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal have focused on campaign finance and economic critiques of the current state administration.

Election Commission expenditure disclosures revealed that the BJP spent a total of Rs 529 crore across five assembly elections, with approximately Rs 287 crore dedicated to West Bengal. These reports highlighted significant spending on media, digital content creators, and social media influencers to manage political narratives. BJP leaders responded by stating that all transactions were conducted through official banking channels and submitted to the Election Commission.

Following these financial disclosures, BJP national president Nityanand Rai accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration of presiding over economic decline. Rai claimed that roughly 6,700 companies have closed during 15 years of TMC rule, resulting in capital flight from the state. He proposed that a BJP government would prioritize an investment-friendly environment to foster employment and encourage the youth to become job creators.
