Body discoveries in Curitiba rivers

Overview

In mid-September, a man’s body in a state of decomposition was discovered caught in branches in a river in the Xaxim neighborhood of Curitiba. Initial assessments by the Military Police of Paraná indicated no apparent signs of violence, suggesting the current may have carried the body. The remains were sent to the Medical Legal Institute (IML) for identification.

On October 1, another man’s body, estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old, was recovered from the Canal Belém River under the Colorado viaduct in Curitiba. This discovery followed an alert from a passerby. Authorities isolated the area for investigation by the Military Police and Criminalistics teams, and the victim was also sent to the IML to determine the cause of death.
