Bogotá is advancing multiple aerial cable car projects to improve urban transit. In the Ciudad Bolívar and Soacha areas, the Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano (IDU) is proceeding with demolitions for the TransMiCable Potosí project. To date, 100 properties have been demolished, with 10 more slated for removal. This work has faced local protests regarding structural damage, waste, and security, prompting the IDU to implement mitigation measures and mobile surveillance to manage vacant lots. In the San Cristóbal district, ~~Transmilenio~~ TransMilenio S.A. has awarded the operation contract for a new Transmicable system to the Promesa de Sociedad Futura Mi Cable San Cristóbal consortium. This 390,000 million peso contract, spanning over ten years, involves a partnership with the Bolivian state company Mi Teleférico. The 2.8-kilometer system is designed to transport 4,000 passengers per hour per direction, significantly reducing travel times for approximately 400,000 residents. Detailed contract specifics confirm that the Bolivian state-owned company Mi Teleférico, as part of the consortium, won the international tender to operate and maintain the system. The contract, valued at approximately 390.8 billion Colombian pesos, will span 124 months. The scope includes passenger services, electromechanical maintenance, security, cleaning, and environmental management. Scheduled to begin operations in December 2026, the system will feature 144 cabins and three stations—Altamira, La Victoria, and 20 de Julio—aiming to reduce commutes from 45 minutes to 10 minutes.
