The 2026 Bonneville Speed Week in Utah featured various attempts at land speed records across multiple vehicle categories. In the motorcycle category, the Buell Leviathan team, utilizing a 401 hp supercharged 1,190 cc V-Twin, debuted “Project Leviathan”. During its initial participation, rider Jacob Stark reached a maximum speed of 287.3 km/h. While this fell short of the team’s goal to exceed 402 km/h, the manufacturer described the performance as part of an ongoing development project. The team reported technical difficulties regarding gear shifts and wheel stability, specifically noting challenges with wheel rotation when exceeding 200 mph. Other motorcycle efforts included Chris Rivas, who attempted to break the 400 mph record using a 2,997cc turbocharged V4. In the sidecar category, Liane Langlois attempted to break the 220 km/h barrier using a modified Triumph Rocket III. The 2,295 cc vehicle featured aerodynamic updates, such as a new windscreen and sidecar wheel cover, to compete in a new FIM regulation division. Langlois aimed to surpass her previous record of approximately 219 km/h, aided by improved salt surface conditions. In the diesel streamliner category, Salty Box Racing’s “Thunder in the Morning” achieved significant success. Driven by Ryan Boyle, the 5.9-liter Cummins-powered vehicle set two SCTA-certified records in the C/DS class, with an official two-run average of 328.285 mph, surpassing the previous record set in 2024.
