Borsa Italiana market performance

The Borsa Italiana indices experienced upward movement in mid-September 2026. Initially, the FTSEMib gained 0.54% to reach 51,832 points, supported by gains in the banking sector despite an antitrust investigation into Intesa Sanpaolo’s proposed takeover of Monte dei Paschi di Siena.

Following this, the Ftse Mib continued its upward trend, climbing above the 52,000-point mark. This growth was driven by strong performances in the telecommunications, postal, and luxury sectors, as well as broader European market trends and signals regarding inflation control from the Federal Reserve.

By September 17, the FTSE MIB closed up approximately 0.8% at 52,385 points, reflecting investor confidence in the banking, energy, and utilities sectors. Notable individual performers included Poste Italiane, which rose 3.4%, and Tim, which increased by 3% amid discussions regarding potential takeover bids. Pininfarina also saw a sharp rise of 17.6% following a takeover bid.

Despite the broader upward trend, individual stock performance varied. Stellantis experienced a significant decline of 5.23%, while Ferrari and UniCredit faced downward pressure. STMicroelectronics recorded a gain of 2.30%. Market activity remained influenced by falling oil prices and expectations regarding Federal Reserve monetary policy.
