Bper Banca cultural heritage initiatives in Italy
Overview
Bper Banca has inaugurated Palazzo Barbantini-Koch in Ferrara as its third cultural hub, following existing sites in Modena and L’Aquila. The restored historic building, formerly the headquarters of the Cassa di Risparmio di Ferrara, serves as a public space for art, architecture, and historical research.
The facility features a permanent exhibition titled ‘Uno scrigno di storia e arte a Ferrara tra passato e presente’, which showcases the former savings bank's core collection alongside BPER's corporate art. This collection spans from the 15th to the 18th centuries, with additional sections dedicated to 19th and 20th-century artists such as Previati and De Pisis. The site also houses the BPER historical archive.
A temporary exhibition, ‘VANITAS. Fiori e simboli, da Hayez a Casorati’, curated by Fernando Mazzocca and Elena Lissoni, is scheduled to run from October 8, 2026, to January 31, 2027. The exhibition explores the evolution of flower painting in Italian art, ranging from the Romanticism of Francesco Hayez to the works of Felice Casorati.
During the presentation of the temporary exhibition, Bper Banca President Fabio Cerchiai highlighted the bank’s ‘Poli Culturali BPER. Un Sistema di Patrimonio Diffuso’ project. He emphasized that the initiative aims to use culture as a tool for community integration and social development, positioning the bank as a ‘proximity bank’ that creates value for stakeholders beyond profit.
