Brazil antiracist climate initiatives

In late July 2026 Brazil’s Ministry of Racial Equality announced the conclusion of the Kala‑Tukula programme, a leadership development project for Afro‑descendant representatives in global environmental and human‑rights negotiations. The ministry pledged to make the programme permanent and highlighted new international documents that reference Afro‑descendants in just‑transition, gender‑action and climate‑adaptation policies.

The same announcement previewed an International Forum on Climate, Consumption, Black Care and MIL Cities scheduled for 17–19 August in São Paulo, organized by Universidade Zumbi dos Palmares and featuring UNESCO, multiple ministries and civil‑society experts. A follow‑up note on 31 July confirmed that Supreme Court minister Luiz Fux would deliver the opening lecture, underscoring the high‑level judicial involvement and the forum’s antiracist framing.

Together, the snapshots show Brazil’s coordinated effort to embed racial equity into climate policy, develop Black leadership for international negotiations, and convene a high‑profile, antiracist climate forum with participation from the judiciary, government ministries and UNESCO.
