Brazil Central Bank foreign exchange interventions

Overview

The Central Bank of Brazil has taken steps to manage market liquidity and enhance transparency regarding foreign exchange interventions.

In mid-September, the bank executed significant operations to address dollar outflows and market volatility. This included a ‘casadão’ operation involving the sale of US$ 1 billion in the spot market alongside 20,000 reverse currency swap contracts worth US$ 1 billion. Additionally, the bank conducted rolling auctions for currency swap contracts totaling US$ 2.5 billion to provide protection against US dollar fluctuations.

By early October, the Central Bank shifted focus toward data reorganization to increase transparency. The institution updated its Exchange Policy page to provide better visualization of stock history and maturity schedules for Currency Swaps and Repurchase Lines. New daily data series were also added to the Time Series Management System to simplify information access for the public.
