Brazil is facing significant environmental challenges due to desertification, a process affecting approximately 18% of its territory and threatening the water and food security of roughly 39 million people. This degradation is primarily driven by climate variations and human activities, including deforestation and improper agricultural practices. At the 17th United Nations Conference to Combat Desertification (COP17) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Brazil announced its voluntary Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) targets for 2030. The government has committed to restoring more than 163,000 km² of degraded land through the recovery of native vegetation, expansion of agroforestry, and conservation in indigenous territories, conservation units, and watersheds. Beyond restoration, Brazil aims to implement sustainable management and prevention practices across 3.51 million km², targeting a total of 3.67 million km² for LDN. This represents approximately 43.1% of the country's territory.
