In late July 2026, the municipality of Lauro de Freitas in Bahia partnered with UNEB to launch a selective process for 19 seats, reviving a dormant university pole and aiming to increase local access to public higher‑education places. A week later a nationwide drive was reported, with dozens of municipalities, federal institutes and state universities announcing thousands of new admission slots for the 2026‑2027 academic year, including large enrollment rounds at Unicamp, UNEMAT, IFPA, IFMT and Unicentro.
