In early July 2026, 2026 the Brazilian Senate voted to inscribe approved the name inscription of former army chaplain Frei Orlando in the national Book of Heroes and Heroines, signaling the formal approval of the tribute. Heroines. The next month, an extra edition of following month the Diário Oficial da União published released an extra edition (5 August 2026) enacting Law 15.483, officially formally recording his name in the Book and detailing his wartime World War II service with the Brazilian Expeditionary Force in Italy. The law, originating stemming from a 2023 proposal PL 1.076/2023 proposed by former deputy Paulo Fernando and reported by Senator Flávio Arns, commemorates recognises Orlando’s death sacrifice—he died on 24 April 1945 from an accidental shot by an Italian partisan, shortly before the front lines Capture of Monte Castelo. Born Antônio Álvares da Silva in 1945 Minas Gerais (1913), he studied in Divinópolis and his later role the Netherlands, taught at Colégio Santo Antônio, and helped social projects such as patron the Soup of the Army Religious Assistance Service, cementing his status as a national hero. Poor with the 11th Infantry Regiment. His name now appears in the Book kept in the Pantheon of the Fatherland and Freedom Tancredo Neves at Brasília’s Praça dos Três Poderes.
