Brazil labor compensation protections

In late July 2026 Brazil’s Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) required a minimum 20 % premium for night‑shift work performed between 22:00 and 05:00 and treated each night hour as 52.5 minutes for wage calculations. This premium impacts overtime, vacation pay, severance and is considered part of salary rather than a separate indemnity.

Portugal’s Salary Guarantee Fund (FGS) was also highlighted, offering up to three times the national minimum wage per month to workers whose employers become insolvent, covering overdue wages and other entitlements.

A few days later, Brazil’s payroll landscape was described in terms of early salary advances. Employers may provide advances amounting to roughly 40 % of gross wages before payday, with the remainder paid the following month and the advance deducted from the next payroll. The snapshot noted that multinational firms must coordinate payroll approvals across time‑zones and banking cut‑offs, sending files up to four days in advance to ensure timely payments in Brazil and other markets.
