Brazil municipal zoonoses center relocations

In mid‑July 2026 a Brazilian city’s Centro de Controle de Zoonoses (CCZ) began a temporary move of several services—including administrative duties, veterinary outpatient care and rabies vaccinations—to an alternate address while its headquarters underwent renovation. The surgical block and other zoonosis‑related examinations remained at the original site, ensuring continuity of care.

Two weeks later, the municipal government of Cuiabá announced a permanent relocation of its Center of Control of Zoonoses to a new, purpose‑built facility. The former site will be transformed into an expanded Animal Welfare Complex. The move was prompted by an outbreak of canine distemper that killed three dogs and highlighted inadequate conditions in a temporary holding shed. Officials said the new centre will provide a safer environment for managing infectious animal diseases and improve sanitary safety for both animals and the public.

Both actions illustrate a broader pattern of Brazilian municipal authorities reorganising zoonoses control services to address infrastructure needs, respond to disease outbreaks, and enhance public‑animal health safeguards.
