Brazil offshore decommissioning and recycling expansion

Overview

Development of offshore decommissioning and recycling infrastructure in Brazil is progressing through major industrial projects. BR Offshore is advancing the Farol-Barra do Furado Industrial Logistics Complex, a 6 million square meter facility designed for the berthing, decommissioning, and sustainable recycling of maritime vessels and offshore platforms. The project has completed its executive phase and is awaiting an implementation license from the State Environmental Institute (Inea), with construction mobilization anticipated for early 2027.

Investment in this sector is expanding, with BR Offshore planning to invest between R$ 800 million and R$ 950 million in the Barra do Furado shipyard, a move expected to create up to 4,000 jobs. Concurrently, in Bahia, a consortium led by Belov and Braserv is preparing for decommissioning operations at the Itaparica field in the Bay of All Saints. Following a R$ 50 million contract with Petrobras, this project involves the permanent abandonment of five wells and the decommissioning of six jackets, including metal scrap recovery.
