In early July 2026 the Workers' Party (PT) began reorganising its national slate ahead of the 2026 general elections. The party announced that former education minister Camilo Santana would replace Jaques Wagner as its Senate leader after Wagner stepped down amid a Federal Police probe. At the same time PT cemented a coalition in Amazonas with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB), backing former governor Omar Aziz for governor and supporting Senate candidates Eduardo Braga (MDB) and other coalition nominees. A few weeks later PT deepened its partnership with MDB in the northern state of Pará.
