Brazil water security infrastructure projects
Overview
The Brazilian government is preparing to launch a tender for the Piancó Branch (Ramal Piancó) project in the Sertão region of Paraíba. Coordinated by the National Secretariat for Water Security as part of the New Growth Acceleration Program (Novo PAC), the R$ 400 million initiative involves constructing a 20-kilometer system to transport water from the São Francisco River Transposition project to the Piancó River basin.
The project has secured preliminary environmental licensing from Ibama. Upon completion, the infrastructure is intended to provide water security for roughly 350,000 residents across 36 municipalities, while also supporting agricultural and livestock needs in the Alto Piancó basin.
