Overview

The Brazilian government and financial institutions are advancing significant funding initiatives related to environmental restoration, technological development, and climate mitigation.

A federal judge authorized the Amazonas government to resume administrative procedures for a R$ 1.4 billion loan, lifting a previous injunction. This allows the Ministry of Finance to potentially proceed with authorizations and Union guarantees.

In environmental and industrial sectors, the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved several financing packages. These include R$ 200 million for the startup Mombak to fund the ecological restoration of 7,200 hectares of degraded land in the Amazon, aiming to remove over 4.7 million tons of CO2 over 50 years. Regarding energy and technology, BNDES approved approximately R$ 181 million for the construction of two biomethane plants in Mauá (SP) and Vila Velha (ES). Additionally, R$ 84.86 million was allocated to HT Micron to modernize semiconductor manufacturing in São Leopoldo (RS). Further initiatives include a R$ 200 million agreement with the city of Manaus for climate adaptation and urban resilience.

To address climate-related emergencies, Acting President Geraldo Alckmin formalized a Provisional Measure releasing R$ 64 million in extraordinary credit to mitigate El Niño impacts. This includes R$ 40 million for the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger to strengthen the Food Acquisition Program, and R$ 24 million for the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai) to provide emergency food and potable water. To assist with monitoring, the federal government launched a digital platform providing official information on El Niño and disaster prevention guidelines.
