Clubs in Brazil's Série A and B have approved a proposal by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to gradually reduce the number of foreign players allowed per match in the Campeonato Brasileiro. The current limit of nine foreign players per match will be reduced to eight in 2027, seven in 2028, six in 2029, and finally five in 2030. The measure aims to increase playing time and opportunities for young Brazilian athletes, particularly those under 23. To support this, new registration rules will require clubs to maintain a mandatory minimum of players aged 23 or younger. Of the 50 players a club can register, the minimum number of required spots for under-23 players will increase annually from 20 in 2027 to 25 in 2030.
