Brazilian industrial and small business credit trends
Overview
Data from the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) indicates that Brazilian industrial companies have increased their reliance on traditional commercial banks for short- and medium-term financing. Between February and July 2026, 65.3% of industries identified traditional banks as their primary source for credit with terms up to five years, compared to 61% in 2025.
While traditional banks remain the leading source for long-term credit exceeding five years, their share in that category decreased to 49.5% from 51% the previous year. Development banks and equity capital have emerged as significant alternative sources for long-term needs.
In the sector of micro and small enterprises, credit availability has seen notable activity. Banco do Nordeste announced R$ 1.88 billion in available credit to assist these businesses with year-end preparations. Additionally, the Banco de Desenvolvimento de Minas Gerais reported a record R$ 740 million in credit provided to micro and small businesses between January and mid-October, marking a 90% increase over the same period in the previous year.
