Brazilian military justice convictions

Overview

The Brazilian military justice system has issued several convictions involving members of the Army.

In one case, a military court in Rio de Janeiro convicted reserve Colonel Rubens Pierrotti Junior for his book, ‘Diários da Caserna: Dossiê Smart’. The court found him guilty of improper criticism of military authority and spreading facts harmful to the dignity of the Armed Forces after he alleged corruption regarding a 2010 artillery simulator contract. Defense attorneys have labeled the ruling “flagrant censorship” and plan to appeal.

In a separate ruling, the 5th Military Judicial District Audit in Curitiba convicted a former soldier of racial injury. The conviction follows a March 2025 incident at the 13th Armored Infantry Battalion where the accused used a racial slur against a fellow recruit during a training period.
