Brazilian municipal MEI regularization campaigns
Overview
Municipalities in Brazil are initiating campaigns to assist Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEI) in regularizing their tax and legal status.
In Chapadão do Sul, the ‘REGULARIZA MEI 2026’ campaign was launched through the Secretariat of Economic Development and Environment. In partnership with the Federal Revenue Service and the Commercial and Business Association, the program provides guidance on debt identification and installment plans. The initiative includes extended service hours and educational tutorials to help entrepreneurs address outstanding debts or exclusion notices.
Similarly, officials in Marabá have urged microentrepreneurs to resolve pending issues by September 30. The local secretariat warned that failure to regularize status could result in exclusion from the Simples Nacional program in 2027, affecting access to simplified taxation and social security benefits through 2028. Marabá is offering debt negotiation assistance, including potential discounts of up to 70% for qualifying individuals.
