An avalanche on Broad Peak’s south-west face on 30 July 2026 struck a ten-member multinational expedition led by renowned British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja. The expedition included climbers from Nepal, Pakistan, China, Oman, the United Kingdom, and the United States. New details have emerged regarding the fatalities, confirming that the expedition leader, Nirmal Purja, and Kili Pemba Sherpa were among those killed. Witnesses reported hearing a “loud crack” before the avalanche swept down both sides of the peak. Drone footage later confirmed the presence of bodies with no apparent survivors.
