England fast bowler Brydon Carse was removed from the England squad for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s following an incident in Derby. Video footage showed Carse in handcuffs outside a nightclub while celebrating a County Championship victory with Durham teammates. While Carse was detained by police on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, he was not formally arrested and was released without charge after agreeing to leave the area. Derbyshire Police have since launched an investigation into allegations of an assault in the Derby city centre related to the same timeframe, though no arrests have been made in connection with that specific allegation. It remains unclear what role, if any, Carse played in the alleged assault. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has referred the incident to the independent Cricket Regulator for investigation. England captain Joe Root expressed frustration over the situation, describing it as a ‘stupid mistake’ and stating he was ‘really hacked off’ to be addressing off-field issues rather than cricket performance.
