Buca Municipality debt seizure and foreclosure

Overview

Buca Municipality in İzmir, Turkey, is facing significant financial enforcement actions due to unpaid rental debts totaling 150 million TL. These arrears cover the 2024 and 2025 periods for 118 vehicles and pieces of heavy machinery, such as garbage trucks and excavators.

Because assets used for public services are protected from seizure, enforcement officers and police have targeted personal property within the offices of the mayor, deputy mayors, and assistant mayors. This follows unsuccessful attempts to reach a settlement through the İzmir 5th Enforcement Directorate.

Following the initial seizure proceedings, the İzmir Real Estate Sales Enforcement Office announced an auction for a 123-square-meter property in the Yenigün neighborhood of Buca. The property has an estimated value of 9 million TL, with an electronic auction scheduled to begin in January 2027.
