The $100 million overhaul of the Oscar y Juan Gálvez Autódromo in Buenos Aires, now officially named the ‘Fangio Circuit’, is approximately 60% complete. Managed by Autopistas Urbanas (AUSA) and designed by Tilke Engineers & Architects, the project began in January 2026 and is slated for completion by the end of the year. Recent construction milestones include the completion of the control tower, paddock, and box building structure, alongside track leveling and infrastructure works such as a new tunnel under curve 1. The facility is being prepared to host MotoGP in April 2027, an event expected to generate an economic impact of approximately $150 million. Regarding the return of Formula 1, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem ~~stated~~ has expressed full support for Argentina's efforts. Speaking during the FIA American Congress in Buenos ~~Aires~~ Aires, he noted that while a 2027 return is too early due to a saturated 24-race calendar, the country is on the ‘right track.’ He suggested 2029 or 2030 as a more realistic timeframe for a Grand Prix. Argentine President Javier Milei has actively lobbied for the return of the Grand Prix, citing the nation's motorsport tradition and the rising profile of local driver Franco Colapinto. Local authorities, including Buenos Aires Chief of Government Jorge Macri, have emphasized that the circuit's modernization is a vital investment to secure high-level international events. Additionally, Ben Sulayem indicated that efforts are underway to bring the World Rally Championship back to the country, noting that ‘Argentina deserves it.’
