Buenos Aires digital violence legislation
Overview
The Chamber of Deputies of the Province of Buenos Aires has granted semi-sanction to the ‘Ley Ema’, a legislative initiative intended to prevent and address digital violence, bullying, and cyberbullying in educational environments. Inspired by the death of a teenager following the non-consensual dissemination of intimate images, the bill seeks to establish a provincial program for the ‘Integral Prevention and Addressing of Digital Violence in Educational Settings’.
The proposed legislation would modify the Provincial Education Law to include mandatory training for teaching staff and update school protocols regarding privacy, consent, and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence. Following its approval in the lower house, the bill has moved to the provincial Senate for further processing.
