Buenos Aires historic fountain restoration
Overview
Historical fountain preservation efforts are underway in Buenos Aires. The Catalan Fountain, a replica of Barcelona’s Font de Canaletes located in Plaza Cataluña, required specialized reconstruction of its components after vandalism damaged its taps.
Separately, the Buenos Aires government has launched a project to restore the Fuente Monumental. This cast iron sculptural ensemble, originally inaugurated in 1903, was dismantled and dispersed across three neighborhoods over a century ago. The Ministry of Public Space intends to repair all pieces, reproduce lost elements, and reunite the complete set at Plaza República de Croacia in Parque Tres de Febrero.
