Buick market entry in South Korea
Overview
General Motors has officially introduced its Buick brand to the South Korean market, positioning it as a ‘modern premium’ brand between mainstream and traditional luxury segments. The brand’s entry is marked by the launch of the 2027 Electra E7, a midsize plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV.
The Electra E7 utilizes the Xiao Yao architecture, combining a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a 165kW electric motor and a 31.7kWh battery. The vehicle provides an electric-only range of up to 126km and a total combined range exceeding 1,000km. Key features include DC fast charging, a 15.6-inch center display, and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) capabilities.
To support the market entry, Buick is conducting a nationwide promotional tour throughout October, featuring pop-up stores in Seoul, Busan, Hanam, and Daejeon. Sales are expected to begin in November, utilizing GM’s existing service networks in the country.
