A series of structural failures in Kano State has resulted in casualties and emergency rescues. In July, a fencing wall collapsed during the demolition of a residential building in the Kofar Mata Zango area, trapping one worker. Two others were rescued alive. In a second incident at the Khadija Idris Bala Islamiyya School in Kurna, Fagge LGA, nine students were affected. While eight were rescued, 14-year-old Khadija Muhammad died after being recovered unconscious. Authorities have opened launched investigations into the causes of these collapses incidents. The Kano State Fire Service has urged contractors, building owners, and have issued warnings to residents and contractors to strictly adhere to safety measures, precautions and approved building standards, particularly during the rainy season.
