Bulgaria national football team coaching search

Overview

The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) is conducting a search for a new head coach for the Bulgaria national football team following the resignation of Aleksandar Dimitrov.

Leading candidates include Romanian coach Eduard Iordănescu, who recently led Romania to the Euro 2024 knockout stages and previously managed CSKA Sofia. Iordănescu is currently a free agent after leaving Legia Warsaw, though he faces potential competition from offers in Romania and Saudi Arabia.

Serbian coach Aleksandar Janković remains a prominent option. Janković, who is currently unattached, has extensive experience including stints with Red Star Belgrade and various levels of the Chinese national team, and maintains professional connections within Bulgarian football.

Other potential candidates include Brazilian coach Silvinho, though his financial demands may be a barrier. If a permanent appointment is not secured quickly, the BFU may appoint Todor Yanchev, the current U21 coach, to serve in an interim capacity for upcoming matches against Iceland and Estonia.
