Burkina Faso military and civil leadership field visits

In late July 2026, General Moussa Diallo, Chief of Staff of the Burkina Faso Armed Forces, conducted an operational visit to the military garrison in Kaya from July 29 to 31. The mission was intended to convey encouragement from Captain Ibrahim Traoré and to reinforce discipline, vigilance, and unity among the forces. During the visit, General Diallo inspected troops, met with senior military and paramilitary commanders, and visited wounded soldiers at the Kaya military hospital, where he expressed national solidarity.

Following this, on August 10, 2026, the Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, visited Tougan in the Sourou province to support combat forces and assess healthcare conditions. The minister evaluated the military medical center and emphasized that the security provided by armed forces is essential for the healthcare system, noting that securing roads allows for the continuous delivery of medicines and vaccines and the return of medical personnel to their posts. He also highlighted the need for improved infrastructure, human resources, and mental health support for staff working under difficult circumstances.

Additionally, on August 8, 2026, local authorities and district medical chief Dr. Jérôme Nikiema supervised a sanitation operation in Tougan. This initiative focused on cleaning gutters to eliminate mosquito breeding sites as part of a national campaign to combat malaria through environmental sanitation.
