Overview

In Burkina Faso, the administration led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré is pursuing a series of national refoundation efforts under the Progressive Popular Revolution (RPP).

Initial efforts focused on social and cultural restructuring. The Front de défense pour la patrie (FDP) organized a conference in Ouagadougou to discuss religious and customary reforms, national sovereignty, and the promotion of secularism. These discussions aimed to sensitize the population to the government’s vision and address social transformation through the management of cultural heritage.

Following these social initiatives, President Traoré expanded the reform agenda to include institutional, infrastructural, and security sectors. In September 2026, the President detailed several major initiatives to support the country’s political transition, including the upcoming introduction of a new Constitution.

On the security front, the military has been reorganized into deployable battalions, with preparations underway for large-scale conflicts beyond current counter-terrorism efforts. The administration is also developing a domestic defense industry; notably, Faso Armored has produced nearly 300 armored vehicles since late 2025. Regarding judicial matters, Traoré warned that the death penalty will be strictly applied to individuals convicted of espionage or high treason.

To achieve energy sovereignty, the government is investing over 100 billion CFA francs to modernize the electrical grid and upgrade transport lines from 225 kV to 400 kV. Infrastructure development also includes the Faso Rails project, supported by a newly created local company for rail and wagon manufacturing with a 70 billion CFA franc budget.
