Bus accidents in Brazil

Overview

Two separate bus accidents occurred in Brazil in late October 2026.

In São João del-Rei, a head-on collision between two public transport buses took place on a bridge near Praça da Biquinha. The impact trapped both drivers, requiring firefighters to use extrication tools to rescue them. The drivers sustained facial injuries and suspected lower limb fractures, while four passengers reported minor injuries. Authorities are investigating whether a narrowing in the roadway contributed to the crash.

In Seropédica, a bus traveling from Rio de Janeiro to Volta Redonda crashed on the Presidente Dutra Highway (BR-116). A passenger reported that the driver fell ill, causing his foot to become stuck on the accelerator. The vehicle struck a truck twice before hitting a central barrier. The driver was the only individual requiring medical assistance, and the incident occurred in a section of the highway undergoing construction.
