Business burglaries in Germany

Overview

A series of burglaries targeting local businesses has been reported across various German states.

In late July, police in Thuringia reported an attempted break-in at a hair salon in Erfurt, where perpetrators caused approximately €500 in damage but failed to enter. Simultaneously, in North Rhine-Westphalia, suspects broke into a gym in Kamen, using a lever to pry open a window and steal nutritional supplements.

By mid-August, further incidents occurred in Dietingen and Selm. In Dietingen, thieves failed to breach a butcher shop’s main door but accessed a garage to steal tools, causing roughly 3,000 euros in damages. In Selm, an intruder entered a bakery, stealing a cash drawer and a safe; however, the safe was empty because of a new cash management system. Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the bakery incident.
