BYD electric vehicle infrastructure and technology expansion

BYD is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and vehicle technology through various international partnerships and product launches.

In Shanghai, BYD and Sinopec have converted a traditional fuel station into a dedicated EV Flash Charging hub. This facility utilizes megawatt-level technology, offering up to 1,500kW of power, which allows compatible vehicles to charge from 10% to 70% in roughly five minutes. To mitigate grid strain, the site utilizes battery storage systems in place of former underground fuel tanks. This system allows the station to draw only 100 kilowatts from the grid to recharge the buffers and can serve as backup power during outages. This conversion is part of a strategic initiative where BYD aims to establish 20,000 flash-charging stations across China by the end of the year.

In addition to infrastructure, BYD reported that its fleet of vehicles equipped with driving assistance systems has surpassed 3.52 million units. The company’s ‘DiGod’s Eye’ system generates over 220 million kilometers of driving data daily to support autonomous driving development.

In Brazil, WEG and NEXT Mobilidade launched the WEMOB® STATION HPC Fleet, a 960 kW charging station designed to charge up to 12 vehicles simultaneously. Concurrently, BYD introduced the BC12HF, its first electric high-floor chassis utilizing Blade battery technology, aimed at increasing its presence in public and corporate transport markets.
