CAF digital transformation investment in Latin America

Overview

The Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) has announced a plan to invest $12 billion into digital transformation projects across the region over the next five years. This initiative is part of the bank’s Digital Transformation Agenda, which seeks to double previous financing levels by 2031.

During the International Forum ‘Digitalize to Transform’ in Santiago, Chile, CAF Executive President Sergio Díaz-Granados called for political, social, and business leaders to establish a unified regional position. He emphasized that coordination is necessary for Latin American and Caribbean nations to influence global rules regarding artificial intelligence, data governance, computing access, standards, employment, and security, rather than acting as “passive consumers of new technologies.”

CAF intends to serve as a connector to facilitate knowledge sharing and dialogue, helping the region navigate shifts affecting productivity, labor markets, and institutional structures. The bank also plans to collaborate with the private sector and financial allies to mobilize additional resources.
