Two weeks after the program’s debut, Governor Gavin Newsom reported that 86,857 EVs were sold in Q2 2026, representing 19.1 % of all new‑car registrations – the highest quarterly share recorded this year. Officials attribute the rebound to the rebate and California’s long‑standing clean‑vehicle standards, underscoring the state’s role in U.S. decarbonisation as federal EV tax credits remain suspended.
